Inception is a 5-star, expertly crafted, and fantastically beautiful masterpiece of a heist movie containing layers and layers of intrigue and meaning. Sadly, it is wrapped in the kind of pop-philosophy common in smoke filled college dorms.
It felt as though the meta-story was added only to raise unanswered questions. But, as the movie takes pains to point out, Inception isn’t just about raising the questions - it’s about ensuring the right answers. Perhaps additional viewings will reveal that the answer is indeed there. If so, I may change my rating. But as it stands, the questions just seem to cheapen the whole thing.
Too bad, really. Because it’s still a hell of a heist movie.
